Let's see who's playing at the Foxy Goose in August!

Do you like music? Do you like beer? Do you live in the Sacramento area? Do you like old bricky warehouse places that serve yummy imported beer? Are you a member of the Sacramento Society for Really Impressive Conversations and Ideas? Or the Ministry of Fun? Well come down R Street when you've got a couple 5 hours to kill and start out with some breakfast, then some pints, check your email, have lunner or dunch, drink another pint and mingle with funny regulars that talk kind of loud and say mildly inappropriate things, and stick around into the night and listen to some unique and satisfying music. Okay, let me break down August's entertainment for ya:

Thursday the 1st is Jay Shaner’s band along with whimsical SF band Odd Owl (think Camera Obscura meets Taken by Trees). We love Jay, so come out and hear his beautifully crafted music straight from the heart.

Friday is the return of Zach Sapunor and his brilly jazz duo, The Afterlife, fresh from his stint with Wayne Hancock and Austin, Texas. Zach toured the world playing his highbred brand of ultra-gymnastic stand-up bass. Also on the bill is Miss Maddy’s F St. Stompers playing string swing.

Saturday night, don’t miss straight rock & roll from Old Cotton Dreary, sophisticated southern indie rock from SF’s Sands, and June and Johnny Cash sounds from Jewels & Johnny Nation. Super eclectic music for the adventurous at heart!

Get your skank on at the Goose! Every Wednesday is Northern Soul! and Cornhole! our weekly night of classic rare soul music, rocksteady, and northern soul. We have a featured performer, on the 7th: guitarist, Jr. Thomas will be playing live ska and rocksteady backed by Keyser Soze. Rudies everywhere!

Thursday it's Austin’s all girl rockabilly outfit, Danger Cakes with local psych-rock band Infinite Vastness. Danger Cakes is fun! Infinite Vastness is Taylor, our sound guy's new band. Drink fancy beer!

Friday it’s Oakland’s a capella hip-hop/soul group Antique Naked Soul with rocksteady reggae from The Sacto Soul Rebels and Davis funk band Big Sticky Mess. Great music at the Goose!

Saturday, the Followers of Sunshine play hippy rock with Gabe Nelson’s slick and melodic Bellygunner along with Portland’s quirky indie popsters, Miss Massive Snowflake. You should probably have a pint of bitter and some crisps…

Thursday the 15th it’s Steve McLane’s timeless acoustic tunes. Steve has been playing at Fox & Goose since the early days. He plays classics from Neil Young to the Beatles to Bob Dylan. It's a nice mellow way to spend a Thursday evening with a pint and a pasty. 8pm, free.

Friday it’s Irish plus Americana from One-Eyed Reilly, Slavic Latin soul from The Hollow Point Stumblers, and country from Vallejo’s High Card Drifters.

Saturday is bluegrass and folk form The Spillit Quikkers and Longhut. The Spillits say they are Sacramento's one and only rootin'-tootin'm, high-fallutin', non-pollutin', bona fide good time string band! They also feature the one and only Jimbo Gilbert! Put a banger on a bun in your face place!
The Mike Justis Band plays acoustic folk on Thursday the 22nd. Mike has played at the Goose for many many years, and his brand of classic acoustic music is always refreshing. Featuring Kathy Barwick, Mike Justis, Steve O'Neil, Jeff Sears, and Steve McLane, you're always in for some great Americana, Blues, and Classic folk music.

Friday is local Foo Fighter style rockers Wolfgang Vega with wild and amazing Australian country from 8-Ball Aitken and straight LA country from Alice Wallace. Wolfgang play powerful indie rock that will get your head bouncing. 8-Ball is an amazingly dynamic performer and will surely entertain with his fiery ginger back bush sound. Alice is a beautiful singer-songwriter with great songs and only plays with top notch musicians.

Saturday the 24th is indie soul from Hans Eberbach with folk from Brian Stevens. Brian Stevens is a rough and tumble singer-songwriter with a punk influence. The Foxy Goose has something for everyone!

Stepping Stone takes over on the 29th providing the return of Fox & Goose’s Irish Session. Come enjoy traditional Celtic music and bring an instrument!

Friday is Sac’s best country band, the Golden Cadillacs, with sweet melodic folk from Güero. Seriously the most satisfying western band I can think of. The music is melodic and a little dark with creative lyrics and fancy vintage equipment. Güero is made up of local skate heroes jamming modern art folk with banjo, guitar, and bass. Come enjoy the best of Sacramento's music in this wonderful intimate setting!

Get a little Pink Floyd style psychedelic rock from Tyler Clark's Infinite Vastness and San Francisco's The Spiral Electric, and acoustic folky singer songwriter tunes from local music columnist, Jackson Griffith. Tyler is our super kind and accommodating sound engineer and his band rocks!  Spiral have lots of Tylers in their band and are all around nice fellas who enjoy tripping you out. Jackson is a prolific writer and a fun and creative songsmith.

Hey, do you recognize this? It's the bigger than life fox and goose outside the Fox & Goose, and this very wonderful man Richard Ratcliff made them. He's a local artist who has some more pieces in the Adamson Gallery right next door to the Goose located at 1021 R street. Dick is a sophisticated and kind ex-lobbyist cat who creates fun and interesting bronze sculptures usually in the shape of animals and bugs. I've had the pleasure of chatting with him on quite a few occasions and thought you might like to meet him. Meow.
